AGEStronger

Course Overview: AGEStronger

1️⃣ AGEStronger is designed to reframe how exercise for older adults is perceived. It goes far beyond simply encouraging movement or stretching—because that alone is not sufficient. The course focuses on a true mechanistic understanding of the aging body, covering muscle physiology, the nervous system, skeletal health, and movement mechanics, enabling participants to design truly effective training programs.
2️⃣ The course begins with the Fall-Proof Concept, the core foundation of AGEStronger. Fall prevention is not limited to balance training alone; it integrates muscle strength, neuromuscular responsiveness, and movement preparedness—helping us understand how falls occur and how the body should be trained to respond.
3️⃣ Participants will explore age-related physiological changes at the level of muscle, tendon, bone, nervous system, and hormones. The course emphasizes appropriate exercise selection, load adjustment, and the strategic use of regressions to make effective training possible for all older adults.
4️⃣ A major focus is balance training, particularly in the morning session. Balance is examined beyond single-leg standing, with in-depth exploration of vestibular function, proprioception, vision, and central nervous system integration. Participants will clearly distinguish between static balance, dynamic balance, and perturbation training—and understand how balance, fall prevention, and fracture prevention are related yet distinct concepts.
5️⃣ The course addresses age-related degeneration, emphasizing that degeneration does not mean exercise should be avoided. On the contrary, proper exercise is essential to reduce the risk of sarcopenia, osteopenia, obesity, dementia, frailty, and other age-associated conditions.
6️⃣ A core philosophy of AGEStronger is no one-size-fits-all. There is no “best” program for older adults. The course covers comprehensive strength training across muscles, tendons, bones, and the nervous system, as well as power training, which is critical for fall prevention and daily activities such as standing up from a chair, stepping quickly, or recovering from a stumble.
7️⃣ The course also examines the role of eccentric training, maximum-effort training, and hypertrophy training in older adults—addressing safety, necessity, effectiveness, and whether hypertrophy is truly the optimal strategy for preventing sarcopenia, or if alternative approaches may be superior.
🌟 The single goal of AGEStronger is to help older adults become stronger, move better, and live with greater confidence.
📌We look forward to seeing you.
